How am I doing?

It is all too easy to get overwhelmed by negative emotions, to allow them to control our actions and path forward. Here’s how I avoid that without trying to control what I’m feeling...

I hope this helps you when things feel less than ideal inside…Please leave a comment or send me an email if you found this helpful, and pass it along to anyone who might be interested.

Thanks!

Masculine compassion

Mostly offline this week, enjoying vacation time with family. I did want to post this, though; it’s another facet of what I’ve been working on lately that is coming out at Your Warriors’ Heart in September. This is the beginning of something wonderful, and I’m not at all sure where it will take me….

Please do leave a comment or send an email; I’d love to hear how this affects you.

Your Warriors’ Heart!

Wow!

I’ve been head down since the conference, filled with excitement and things falling into place like crazy! It’s been quite a ride.

The first results are ready for the world!

Your Warriors’ Heart

A 4-day Intensive Men’s Workshop-discovering the heart and building the body of a warrior.

September 3-6, Santa Fe, New Mexico

This is both the most intense and personal, and also the most natural thing I’ve ever done professionally.  For more information, go here.

I value your comments and questions, please go take a look and let me know what it does for you.

Onward!

Changes...

After an experience like that, changes are bound to happen.

You will see them reflected throughout the site over the next week. In the meantime, sign up for my newsletter to get the first glimpse of what’s coming!

The Conference for Men

The Conference for Men was life changing. I've done a lot of transformational work: bodyworker for 20 years, a martial artist for over 25…Intensive trainings and experiences are not new.

This is one of the inflection points in my life.

Other people have shared better than I the information passed along that weekend. It was incredibly useful, and some of it went in really deeply.

What struck me the most, what I took with me was not what I learned, but what I am. The holding of space, the exercises, the experience were set up so that our action, repeatedly, over and over, invited us to show up, invited us to feel, invited us to have a different relationship with the men around us and the man inside us.

That experience, that habit, that perspective, that feeling of being in the world in a different way...THAT was the gift for me because I am now a different person in my marriage, with my kids, in my work, in my life.

Information I can forget; I will not forget the look in my brothers eyes or the open hearts that I felt, the support that was given endlessly, freely, with joy, without reservation or conditions. I will not forget the intensity of the emotions and stories that we now hold for each other so that we do not have to hold them alone.

I cannot forget what I felt and what I feel now as I am home…I’m not back, I came home into a new life.

My deepest gratitude to the men who showed up, and the men who created this, and the tribe that I am now a part of...I've got your back, brothers.

I’m tired...

…of trying to fit into expectations when my goal, my passion, my very wiring is to open doors and step out of the way. Where that door is and where it leads is up to you.

Do I do bodywork? Martial arts? Movement? I use the tools, but the goals may differ.

Are you reading this? Are you breathing? Welcome! You have a perspective, habits, and a way that you approach things; these control what is possible and present for you every moment.

The way forward is not through more information or learning, but changing the way we function, so that awareness, choice and freedom are the natural result, without force or supervision.

Honesty

The more we allow ourselves to start from nothing, the more we can see around us and be fully aware of what is actually happening. The really cool stuff comes from the interplay of a context and a perspective; a unique set of values and sensitivities and history and point of view all on top of each other. When moments pass through this lens, something arises that is so much more complex than our mind can grasp, because there is no outer boundary to context, and there is no limit to the number of ways perspective can unfold.

The best we can do is be awake to our context and our perspective and allow life to shine through unencumbered.

Here I am.

There have been many faces I've shown the world over the years, related to a profession or a particular interest. The time has come in my life and work to begin living from my own story and perspective. Story, metaphor and context are too powerful a force to give away to someone else.

New growth!

Lots of things, following the seasonal explosion of growth.Portland classes will resume in late June, when I get back. There will be a few workshops this summer as well. I'll teach one, and I have a few friends in mind, too. Dan Colageo from Bangor sometime this summer, and yes, Daniil Ryabko from Moscow will be here in October! That one will be an incredible experience, for sure. I'm gathering material for an online class that will go live sometime this summer. Many tributaries, one river.... If you want details as they come and sometimes input into the process, sign up for my newsletter over on the right. If something here sparks your interest but you don't see quite what you're looking for, drop me a line. Some of the best ideas come from collaboration!

What is...

Key, simple thought from Chris Gillebeau...What's missing in your life? What are you looking for that you can't find? That's how Restoration Hardware was started. Someone who had a need and couldn't find the goods they were looking. And it doesn't...
